About Robert Cartmell
Background
Robert Cartmell has a background as a former solicitor (1996-2020) and business owner. His primary work is advising as a consultant for families in matters of their Estate Planning, Wills and (particularly) Trusts. As such, he has extensive experience of the ‘estate planning’ process, in administration of estates and more recently of the Trust Management process. He has acted for not only families of wealth, and those with businesses. He has acted as trustee for vulnerable individuals and in complex estates.
Expertise/Strengths
Robert’s particular expertise is in bringing the subject of Trust work into general use for the majority of families and circumstances and calls on his 25 years of experience in the areas of Wills and estate work. Robert’s vision is that most people should at some stage need to have a practical working knowledge of the concept, uses and merits of Trusts alongside Wills and gift-making. The challenge he has set himself is to work with people from all backgrounds. The role with law firms will be primarily in education as to effective estate planning through the use of Trusts.
Robert’s Role
Role areas for you and your firm include:
- Creating a sustainable Private Client business plan for you and ensuring successful implementation.
- ‘Selling’ the vision to all levels of your private client team to ensure a communal approach
- ‘Selling’ the vision to your clients and their wider community of contacts and other advisors (financial advisors)
- Creating or improving the environment to lead to increased turnover and profit generation through tried and tested common sense approach to private client trust work.
Focus
Robert Cartmell has a primary focus in the use of Trusts within a private client department. For your firm, an early engagement with clients as to the use of Will-trusts will lead to increased probate and estate administration work and eventually trust management work. Robert had the full experience of growing and managing a law firm and of pursuing a vision and mission. Those experiences serve to provide valuable insight and experience which he wishes to pass on to help and benefit others.
Robert Cartmell wishes to help law firms in delivering a sustainable and better service for their clients. This means over the longer term rather than one transaction. The emphasis for legal professionals is about creating value for their clients and providing them with real solutions.
Outside work
Robert lives with his wife Claire in Buckinghamshire and is father to his three children. Outside of family time, he is a lover of many sports, has represented his county at badminton and bowls and is a keen member of Ellesborough Golf Club in the Chilterns. He is a follower of Brentford Football Club through the years of downs and (more recently) ups!
